Many times, when setting up a SIP device or a computer or mobile application, you will be asked for a codec to use. Codecs help compress and decompress data for faster transmission. At this time, Nextiva’s only supported codec is G.711μ.
If any other codec setting is used with Nextiva, it will result in poor call quality or call failures. Using G.711μ for VoIP traffic delivers the best voice quality. G.711μ is the same codec used by the PSTN network and ISDN lines. It also has the lowest latency (lag), because there is little to no need for buffering, which costs processing power. G.711μ does require slightly more bandwidth than some other codecs, but we are intent on providing the best call quality possible.
